Coastal Marsh Visit with USFWS Director Martha Williams at Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge
The Director of USFWS, Martha Williams, made a visit to southern Maine in May! We had the pleasure of co-hosting her along with Rachel Carson NWR staff and our regional leadership. She was joined by Representative Chelly Pingree of Maine. During her visit we were able to visit a salt marsh, discuss the finer points of low and high marsh zonation, review restoration strategies for coastal marshes, and were even lucky enough to witness capture and banding of a saltmarsh sparrow by the capable Rachel Carson NWR staff. We were honored to contribute to her visit and are excited at the level of exposure and attention coastal marshes are receiving from both USFWS and the Department of the Interior through visits like these.
