Did you know that the only endemic breeding bird species (i.e., found nowhere else on earth!) in the Atlantic Coast Joint Venture has declined by 9% per year for more than a decade? Find out more about the plight of Saltmarsh Sparrow and other tidal marsh birds by checking out the archived version of last week’s seminar.
University of Connecticut researchers, Chris Elphick and Chris Field, presented the latest information on work conducted by the Saltmarsh Habitat and Avian Research Program (SHARP). It included information on population sizes, trends, demographic patterns, and population viability of saltmarsh-dependent species. Other topics covered included saltmarsh habitat change; effects of Hurricane Sandy and ongoing work to investigate restoration efforts; and recent work on the human dimensions of coastal marsh conservation.
